About Us
She was not quite what you would call unrefined.
She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot."
-- Mark Twain
We are located in Durham Region in Southern Ontario. We are passionate about Parrots and want to see every parrot in the best possible surroundings. If that is your own home or with us. We will work with you to help you understand your parrots needs to try to keep your relationship together if this is something you wish.
We can provide emergency long term or short term temporary care for those that due to circumstances must part with their birds for a period of time. We will ensure that you get your bird back when you are ready to do so and that the bird will recieve loving care during its time with us.
We play an active role in parrot welfare and will do all we can when there are reports of abuse or neglect. If you know of any abused or mistreated birds please let us know as we can and will contact the individuals to ensure the safe keeping of these parrots.
I don't want us to come across as activists but we are concerned for the welfare of birds and there are times when they get sick or hurt beyond our control. We are only concerned for the parrots welfare and not in creating problems for individuals. Meaning that we will try to educate those to make sure that they are giving their parrots proper diet and care. If this is not possible and they want to surrender their parrot over to us we will ensure that they recieve proper medical treatment and care.
We also offer an emergency placement service. Ours is a closed facility to ensure the safety of the birds. We do not post our address to the public. This helps us to prevent thefts and safety for our birds.
We offer free of charge information about parrot ownership to ANYONE needing assistance. We can be contacted either by phone 905-728-0987 or email at parrotadopt@sympatico.ca
Our Vision
Our vision is to expand our facility and open a sanctuary setting with an education centre for the public to learn about all aspects of Parrots in the wild and in captivity. We will have classes for those that would like to become parrot owners as well as offer behavioural assistance to those in need. We will continue to adopt those that are available for adoption. We will be able to offer a nurturing environment for those in need.
Education
Our educational goals are to facilitate at Parrot clubs and schools and educate individuals on owning parrots. If you have a group that you would like us to speak with please contact us at parrotadopt@sympatico.ca . As we recieve calls for placement we will try first to mend relationships and teach the current parrot owners behavioural techniques to assist them in keeping their pets. If preferred by the current owners we will take in their pets and ensure that they are either placed in a forever home or will be kept with us here in our home. No bird will ever be turned away from sanctuary.
